Gabriel Fara-on
Biostatistics · Health Equity Research · Data Science

I'm a data systems analyst at UCSF's Ta Park Lab, where I design and manage research databases for the CARE Registry — a health research registry with over 15,000 AANHPI participants. I focus on developing data-driven methods to identify and mitigate health disparities for underrepresented populations.

Research & Professional Experience

UCSF — Ta Park Lab
Data Systems Analyst
November 2023 – Present
  • Design and manage research databases in REDCap for multiple projects, including the CARE Registry with over 15,000 unique AANHPI participants
  • Conduct statistical analyses in R and Python on participant demographics and referral outcome data for academic manuscripts, conference presentations, and grant proposals
  • Develop Python automation scripts for data cleaning — identifying duplicate/spam enrollments and compiling referral, retention, and outreach outcome data — improving data integrity and reducing manual processing time
UCSD — Teaching and Learning Commons
Economics Supplemental Instruction Leader
May 2021 – March 2022
  • Created interactive weekly tutoring sessions for large undergraduate economics classes
  • Clarified complex topics and answered questions on course content

Projects

Data Science Capstone: Deep-Q SEIR Simulator

Implemented a Deep-Q Network in Python (Scikit-learn, PyTorch) to optimize parameter tuning for a COVID-19 SEIR simulator. Built the SEIR model as training data for the reinforcement learning agent.

Python PyTorch Reinforcement Learning Epidemiology

Honors Econometrics: Veterans Wage Gap

Investigated ethnic disparities in the veteran wage gap by fitting multiple linear regression models in R with interaction terms and control variables. Presented findings to a faculty panel.
